Dr. James Doty, Director and Founder of The Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE)
James R. Doty, M.D. is the founder and director of the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), of which the Dalai Lama was the founding benefactor. He is also a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He leads a multi-disciplinary groups of scientists investigating the neuroscience of empathy, compassion and altruism and is the senior editor of the Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science. Dr. Doty is also the author of the New York Times bestseller, Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discovery the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart. He is also an inventor, entrepreneur and philanthropist serving on the board of a number of health-related companies and non-profits.

As a daily practice, you will meditate under the guidance of a CCARE Certified Sr. Stanford CCT™ (Compassion Cultivation Training) Instructor allowing your body, mind, heart, intellect, and spirit to learn to be in harmony.

  • Learn key practices of compassion training to help you enjoy a deeper level of calm and relaxation

  • Experience guided meditations to move beyond your ego’s turbulence into peace and awareness

Cognitive Behavioral and Hypnosis Practice

Participate in Cognitive Restructuring and Hypnosis Guided Sessions under the guidance of psychotherapist and certified therapeutic hypnosis practitioner, to bring union and harmony of your conscious and subconscious self, into every aspect of your life.

All meals are mindfully planned by the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos to nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Meals will be prepared fresh using locally sourced ingredients.
